Royston Railway Club is a small but friendly Club, based in this suburban village, within the borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, with a population of about 11,000. Originally a farming village, the industrial revolution brought the construction of the Barnsley Canal, on which Royston sits and later a branch of the Midland Railway. Sadly both are no longer in use.
The main employer in the area from 1878 until 1966 was Monckton Colliery later to be replaced by the Royston Drift Mine. The site is now the home of the Rabbit Ings Country Park, a 64 hectare mixed habitat of Open Water, Marshland, Grassland and Moorland. which boasts being home to all five species of Owls to be found in Britain.
