Churwell is a suburb of Leeds, close to the Market Town of Morley within the Metropolitan Borough of the City of Leeds. It spans the A643 and is accessed from Leeds by Elland Road, the home of Leeds United AFC. Elland Road crosses the Leeds Outer Ring Road and is known locally as ‘Churwell Hill‘. Historically there were 3 Public Houses on Churwell Hill – The Commercial, The Golden Fleece and The New Inn. They were often referred to as ‘Top Oyle’, ‘Middle Oyle’ and ‘Bottom Oyle’ relating to their position on the hill.

It is said that Comedian Ernest Wiseman originated from this area, later to become one half of the massively popular and National Institution of  Morcambe and Wise. Also John Charles, the legendary footballer for Leeds United, Juventus and Wales was the Landlord at The New Inn after his retirement from Football.

Churwell Club (formerly Churwell Working Men’s Club) is a Social Club located on Old Road (just off Churwell Hill) and is described as a Family friendly Club with Live Entertainment, a Games Room  with Pool and Snooker Tables and weekly Bingo Nights. The Club also welcomes enquiries for hire of the Club for Private Functions or Events.

Saturday 29th March there will be an appearance by Chris Dee who is billed as a ‘Great Male Vocalist’ Entertainment for the Club is provided by Ashley Wheelhouse Entertainment Agency.
