Helmsley is a picturesque, historic market town on the edge of the North York Moors National Park in North Yorkshire, England. Led by the renowned RICHARD EXALL on tenor saxophone and clarinet, along with the exceptional Musical Director DOM BARNETT on piano, our talented musicians have meticulously arranged the music to feature Ma Rainey’s classic songs and to capture the true essence of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. The well-established rhythm section of SAM KELLY on drums and MARIANNE WINDHAM on double-bass set the foundation for a captivating and immersive musical experience. Complementing the ensemble are the powerful and enchanting vocals of CHRISSIE MYLES and EMILY WINDHAM, whose voices will transport you to the jazz clubs of yesteryears.
