SUMMARY:"George!"\, the ultimate tribute to George Harrison at Frazer Theatre\, Knaresborough
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 1st November\, Frazer Theatre Music presents “George!”\, the ultimate tribute to George Harrison\, starring Nick Bold. \nManchester’s Nick Bold made his first mark on the music business in the 1980s as founding member\, lead guitarist and principal songwriter for the British rock band Virginia Wolf. He was signed to Atlantic Records at the urging of Genesis/Phil Collins manager Tony Smith. The band’s membership included drummer Jason Bonham\, son of Led Zeppelin’s John “Bonzo” Bonham. Following the release of their Roger Taylor (Queen) produced self-titled debut album\, Virginia Wolf were tabbed to be the opening act for The Firm (Jimmy Page/Paul Rogers) on their 1986 US Tour. \nIn 1988\, after touring for over a year to support their Kevin Elson (Journey) produced second album Push\, the band decided to split amicably so that the members could pursue their own separate interests. For Bold\, that meant songwriting and producing other artists. To date\, he has written hundreds of songs including the hit ballad Man In The Moon which has been covered by numerous artists of all genres. In addition\, his band Nick Bold and The Raging Sea perform constantly in the UK and have released two albums of all original\, blues influenced\, melodic rock and roll. \nTaking a cue from his childhood\, when he was constantly being told he looked like George Harrison\, Bold appeared on the British TV hit Stars in Their Eyes as George. His impeccable impression immediately earned him critical acclaim and led to his performing all over the world in multiple Beatles tributes before becoming a founding member of the US based touring production\, The Reunion Beatles. \nWith George! he is taking his passion for the quiet Beatle to a new level. The two hour plus performance is a tour de force that brings audiences to their feet with joy as Bold embodies the essence of Harrison with his virtuoso guitar playing and spot-on vocals. It’s all there\, George’s biggest Beatles hits and all of his wonderful post-breakup solo material\, including music from his 1980’s supergroup\, The Traveling Wilburys. \nNick Bold’s George! is a spirited performance that is as close to what it was like to be at an actual George Harrison concert as you could ever imagine. \nTickets are £20 (10% booking fee applies) \nDoors open at 7pm\, show starts at 7.30pm.

SUMMARY:The Corsairs at Hornsea Ex Servicemen's Club HU18 1BA
DESCRIPTION:Hornsea is a seaside town on the Holderness Coast of the East Riding of Yorkshire\, dating back to at least the early medieval period. During the 1st World War\, the Hornsea Mere\, a lake of around 1.2 by .6 mile (2km x 1km) was briefly the site of RNAS Hornsea Mere\, a seaplane base. It has a resident population of almost 9\,000\, although this increases substantially in the summer months due to the large number of Caravan Parks to the north and south of the town. \nNotable people from the area include Brian Rix\, the celebrated Comedy Actor\, and master of farce who was born in 1924 and who later became ‘Baron Rix of Whitehall\, in the City of Westminster\, and of Hornsea in Yorkshire’. Brian was at one time the highest-paid actor to appear on BBC Television\, and it was estimated that he lost his trousers on stage an amazing 12\,000 times. He married Elspet Gray\, an actress in his own Theatre Company\, and they were together for over 64 years\, both domestically and professionally\, until she died in 2013. Their first child was born with Down Syndrome and Brian was a tireless campaigner for disability causes and was President of Mencap from 1998 until his death in 2016. \nAlso with a local connection to the area was Brian Rix’s older sister Sheila Mercier\, born 1919 who was also an actor and went on to play the part of Annie Sugden\, the Matriarch in the long running ITV Soap Opera Emmerdale Farm for over 20 years. The program was originally set in the fictitious Yorkshire Dales village of Beckindale from it’s inception in 1972\, the village changed it’s name to Emmerdale in 1989\, lost it’s agricultural connection and continues to this day as the award winning Yorkshire based Soap! Sheila was a centenarian and died in 2019. \nThe economy includes a mix of tourism and small manufacturing most notably the world famous Hornsea Pottery was established in Hornsea in 1949 but sadly closed in 2000. However it’s legacy is still very much alive through a strong collector’s market\, preserved Museum collections and ongoing Community efforts to celebrate it’s history. The original factory site has been redeveloped and is now the home of Hornsea Village\, a shopping and leisure destination\, which includes ‘The Potteries’ a space dedicated to celebrate the town’s ceramic history. \nHornsea Ex Servicemen’s Club is located quite centrally in the town\, although a little hidden away\, and is open from 12 every day and boasts Sky Sports\, Snooker and Pool Tables\, and Live Entertainment every Saturday and Sunday Night. Membership is open to all\, whether ex Service Men and Women or not. \nThe Artist for Saturday 1st November is The Corsairs\nThe sounds of the 50’s 60’s & 70’s\n

SUMMARY:Golomb at The Crescent\, York YO24 1AW
DESCRIPTION:The Crescent recently celebrated its 10th birthday as an independent\, grassroots Music Venue and Community Space. Over this period it has been recognised as an important part of York’s cultural scene\, bringing diverse artists to the city\, empowering local artists and businesses\, and attracting visitors from around the UK. \nMoulded in the fertile rock crescent of Columbus\, Ohio\, three-piece Golomb (rhymes with Column) channel Midwest friction into an album that seeks to find a genuine connection. The band boasts not one\, but two bonded dynamics\, something of an aberration among most trios. Siblings Xenia (bass) and Hawken (drums) tie down the rhythm section with songwriter/guitarist Mickey Shuman and Xenia turning their tags to spouse after years of dating. The close bonds between the members have fed into the band’s process — family and friends first and band second\, leveraging years of trust to turn The Beat Goes On into an album that never wavers in its sincerity. \nGolomb appear at The Crescent on Tuesday 4th November

SUMMARY:Open Mic Night at The Falcon Club\, Otley LS21 3AT
DESCRIPTION:The Falcon Club was originally was originally built in 1909 as an Oddfellows Friendly Society Hall. but later became a Social Club for workers at the nearby Crabtree Vickers Factory. When the factory closed down\, the Club was gifted to the employees and it subsequently became a Private Members Club. \nThe Clubhouse is of timber construction\, and was threatened by demolition when planning permission was granted for the building of the nearby Care Home. However the Club Members refused an offer to buy them out\, and have since made some improvements\, which include moving the Snooker Table into an extension\, to make it less of a Snooker Hall and more of a Social Club. Further improvements have included the addition of Disabled Facilities\, which because of the Club being all on one level makes it an ideal location as a Venue for Parties and Wakes\, and is available at very reasonable rates. \nAs a Member’s Club the Beer prices are very reasonably priced\, although Guests would need to be signed in by a Member. The Club has 2 teams entered into the Otley & District Snooker League\, home games of which which are held on Tuesday evenings. \nEvery Friday the Club hosts an Open Mic Night starting around 8pm.\norganised by Daniel and Margaret Marshall.\nIt is a very friendly Club and visitors are made most welcome. There is a large Car Park virtually adjoining the Club\, and parking is free after 6pm.

SUMMARY:Toni Ellis at Hornsea Ex Servicemen's Club HU18 1BA
DESCRIPTION:Hornsea is a seaside town on the Holderness Coast of the East Riding of Yorkshire\, dating back to at least the early medieval period. During the 1st World War\, Hornsea Mere\, a lake of around 1.2 by .6 mile (2km x 1km) was briefly the site of RNAS Hornsea Mere\, a seaplane base. The program was originally set in the fictitious Yorkshire Dales village of Beckindale from it’s inception in 1972\, although the village changed it’s name to Emmerdale in 1989\, lost it’s agricultural connection and continues to this day as an award winning Yorkshire based Soap! Sheila was a centenarian and died in 2019. \nThe economy includes a mix of tourism and small manufacturing most notably the world famous Hornsea Pottery was established in Hornsea in 1949 but sadly closed in 2000. It’s legacy however is still very much alive through a strong collector’s market\, preserved Museum collections and ongoing Community efforts to celebrate it’s history. The original factory site has been redeveloped and is now the home of Hornsea Village\, a shopping and leisure destination\, which includes ‘The Potteries’\,  a space dedicated to celebrate the town’s ceramic history. \nThe Artist for Saturday 8th November is Toni Ellis\nExcellent Female Vocal Entertainer\nHornsea Ex Servicemen’s Club\, Toni Ellis.
